Israel on Wednesday approved the construction of 3,144 homes for settlers in the occupied West Bank.

The announcement comes the day after a critical statement from US diplomacy, which claimed to be “deeply concerned” by the Israeli policy of building these colonies.

Some 475,000 Israeli settlers reside in the West Bank, an occupied territory where 2.8 million Palestinians live.

Israeli colonization, illegal under international law, has been continued by all Israeli governments since 1967.

It accelerated in recent years under the impetus of the former Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

His successor Naftali Bennett Since mid-June, he has led a heteroclite coalition that goes from the radical right to left parties.

These announcements of progress in the construction of settlements in the West Bank come as the government took parallel measures to improve the daily lives of the Palestinians, without addressing the delicate issue of resuming the peace process.
