“This is a place where the future is born”, said Markus Achleitner, the state councilor responsible for business and research, on Friday during his visit to the Steyr research center Profactor. Innovation is the basis for future success.
Upper Austria should become a model region for sustainability through the targeted cooperation of experts. The research network of Upper Austrian Research (UAR) plays a central role in this. Achleitner: “The UAR has been turbo for our research landscape for more than 20 years.” In Steyr, Profactor GmbH, which is based in the Stadtgut and in which UAR holds shares, as well as in nine other non-university research centers, plays the role of a leading center in applied production research. The core competencies are in the field of industrial assistance systems and additive micro and nano manufacturing. The Steyr researchers can also refer to innovative developments here.
One of the goals at Profactor is to make production more effective, cheaper, resource-saving and faster. Among other things, this should be done through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The focus is on people, AI should support, says Daniela Kirchberger, project manager at Profactor: “The Zero3 project goes beyond the approach of flawless production and focuses on the most efficient use of the three most important production parameters: resources, skilled workers and data.” In the course of this project, the goal of a reliable and up-to-date database on all value-added streams of companies is anchored for the first time. In form of a “Sustainability monitoring platform” it should be possible for companies to identify bottlenecks and potential across value streams. In this 4.8 million euro project, there is cooperation with BMW, Fabasoft and FACC, among others.
