According to information from Tuesday, the accused are in custody. 19 completed and ten attempted burglaries and two bicycle thefts in Lower Austria, Vienna, Upper Austria, Burgenland and Styria are considered resolved. Damage: around 225,000 euros.
The accused are Polish citizens aged 57 and 61. The duo were stopped and arrested on January 21 after an attempted tobacco shop burglary in Alkoven (Eferding district) on the Westautobahn (A1) in the municipality of Haag (Amstetten district). Burglary tools and stolen goods were secured during searches of persons, vehicles and houses.
According to the state police department of Lower Austria, the accused did not confess. They were taken to Wiener Neustadt Prison. A 54-year-old compatriot of the duo is said to have resold stolen goods. During a search of the house, loot was seized. The Polish citizen who also did not confess was reported.
According to the police, the perpetrators were mainly targeting tobacco products and perfumes. The burglaries had been committed since April 2020. Crime scenes were in addition to tobacconists, gas stations and drugstores.
