Eva Aigner recently officially took over the management of the Vocational Schools Weyer (BBS). She had previously demonstrated her leadership qualities and team spirit as a committed educator and provisional leader. When asked about her plans, the new director names a strong school location and sound technical training as goals. For Aigner, sustainable development in rural areas is inextricably linked to good educational opportunities in the region: “It is important not to leave the educational mandate to the cities alone, but also to enable future-oriented training in rural areas.”
At the vocational schools in Weyer, three school types are united under one roof. The 5-year college for economics (HLW) and the 5-year college for tourism (HLT) conclude with the matriculation and diploma examination and, in addition to vocational training, also offer access to universities and technical colleges. The 3-year hotel management school (HF) enables the fastest path to a career in an industry in which skilled workers are urgently needed. Training such as the certificate to become a state-approved fitness instructor or young bartender round off the educational offer.
“With their mandatory internships at home and abroad, our students acquire valuable skills, especially when dealing with customers,” says Director Aigner. She comes from Ohlsdorf in the district of Gmunden, is married and has two daughters. After high school, she studied English and history to become a teacher at the University of Vienna and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. In 2002 her first job took her to Weyer, where she has been working ever since.
