He Social Welfare Bank (BPS) will once again postpone the payment of rural contributions until July 31, to cushion the impact of the effects of the drought in the Uruguayan countryside.

“In this way, the payment of the obligations for special social security contributions corresponding to the first four-month period may be paid until July 31 without fines or surcharges,” the entity said in a statement.

The BPS had already postponed in January the payment of rural contributions – employer contributions and special social security contributions. In January it had also done so with the payment of withholdings from the Personal Income Tax (IRPF). Now, and with a water deficit situation that is far from resolved, the entity renewed the initiative until the second semester.

In turn, in the recent communiqué, the BPS clarified: “It is recalled that the term established for the presentation of payrolls and payment of agreement quotas according to the Expiration Calendar remains in force.” And he added: “Likewise, it is highlighted that the payment of the first installment of the obligations of the third quarter of 2022 remains unchanged.”

The goal is for producers to be exempt from paying contributions for a few more months, taking into account that the ravages caused by the water deficit lasted longer than expected. He Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) it expects at least $1.8 billion in damage and losses this year from the drought.

With the measure, producers will be able to have liquidity to get bales and rations for animal consumption; as well as for actions such as cleaning wells and cutwaters. The extension for the payment of rural contributions applies to all producers who develop agricultural operations, totally or partially, in real estate located in any part of the national territory.
