The location of the 30th edition of “Teknival” was not known in advance. Despite a ban on spontaneous music festivals over the long Ascension weekend, the authorities are now guaranteeing the order and safety of the participants, the Indre department said on Thursday.
The police, rescue services and civil defense were mobilized for this purpose. The “Teknival” is expected to last all weekend. The organizers were expecting a peak of 30,000 participants, the newspaper “Libération” reported. On Thursday night, a large number of vehicles gathered in a neighboring town to then start organizing the festival, which was neither approved nor announced to the authorities, the department said. The newspaper reported that the equipment was brought in with vans and articulated lorries. The festival will therefore take place on an uncultivated private property, the owner was not informed in advance.
You were presented with a fait accompli, said Mayor Jean-Marc Sevault. Now it is important to ensure that the festival takes place as orderly as possible without incident. The village of Villegongis between Bourges and Poitiers has just over 100 inhabitants. According to their own statements, eleven clubs from different regions of France and 130 volunteers are taking care of the safety and health of the participants. Known throughout Europe, “Teknival” was established thirty years ago.
