The city center of Wels was transformed into a resounding stage for the second time on Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, the weather gods weren’t particularly kind to those involved in the “Long Night of Choirs” this year either, but choir singers and visitors showed themselves to be weatherproof and defied the low temperatures. The bad weather alternatives in covered areas and indoors paid off.

Every half hour, 27 choirs with a total of around 800 singers gave small concerts. It was sung at nine locations in the center, including the Minorite monastery, the castle, the parish church and the beautiful Wels arcades and inner courtyards such as the granary. The joy could be felt on both sides, among the many singers and the audience. The children who got in the mood for the evening in the Minorite monastery were particularly excited before their performances. Because Children’s Song Day is also celebrated on May 17, girls and boys from all over Upper Austria sang traditional and new children’s songs from films, musicals and well-known fairy tales.

Many choirs from the region took part in the event, which was organized by the Chorverband Oberösterreich and Wels Marketing & Touristik GmbH, including the Hans Sachs Choir, the Bachl Choir, the A Cappella Choir and Hrvatski dom, all from Wels, the Lambacher Flavia Choir, the Liedertafel Krenglbach and the Singkreis Steinhaus.
The evening ended at 10.15 p.m. on the town square with a joint singing session featuring Bruckner’s “Locus iste” and Joachim Fischer’s “E-Lah”. The “Long Night of Choirs” will also take place in Wels in the next few years.
