The situation on site will continue to be closely monitored and the retention basins will be cleared out on an ongoing basis. “For the moment, the all-clear can be given,” the country informed on Friday afternoon.

Due to the rain of the past few days, the slopes in the Kendlergraben had started to move. The retention basins were constantly being dredged, but since a lot of material followed, the authorities decided on Thursday evening to evacuate seven houses to be on the safe side. There was also a warning for another 30 buildings. Fire brigade, torrent and avalanche control and district authorities were in action.

On Friday, the Kendlergraben was inspected again by experts, who then gave the all-clear for a while. The movements in the terrain above the settlement area have slowed down so that there is no longer any immediate danger and the residents can stay in their houses.

The state geologists have been observing the Kendlergraben for some time. Since 2019, the site has been recorded there. “The slope movements have now slowed down considerably again after the end of the precipitation. At the moment there is no immediate danger for the residents,” says state geologist Gerald Valentin. “Trees are now being removed in the upper area to prevent blockages. The retention basins are being cleared out. As long as there is no further heavy rainfall, there is no immediate danger for the settlement area for the time being.”
