The 40-year-old reported on Instagram at the weekend about a brutal attack on vacation in Italy. “For the first time I feel how terribly deep the shock is when a woman has to experience male violence,” wrote the popular presenter of the “Ö3 main evening show”. What happened?
Roommate grabbed her by the neck
An apparently heavily intoxicated couple got into a loud argument next to the room in which Elke Rock had slept with her five-year-old son. Around half past one in the morning Rock decides to knock on the door of the neighbors – probably two Carinthians. A man opens the door, grabs the presenter by the neck and begins to choke her. Again and again he asks her: “Do you have a problem?”. The man’s partner intervenes and drags him back into the room.
“I’m standing paralyzed in the aisle. My hands are hanging lifeless on my body. I didn’t fight back. I didn’t even scream. (…) I was defenseless,” says the native of Graz, describing the traumatic situation.
“Woman claimed I was to blame”
The moderator then calls the night porter of the hotel. When talking to the attacker’s partner, she suddenly presents the story in a completely different way – claiming that Rock was aggressive towards her husband. “You have him under control and it was actually my fault. I have to calm down,” writes the 40-year-old. On Instagram she posts a photo showing her neck reddened by the strangle attack.
The next morning, the owner of the hotel kicked the couple out. However, Elke Rock’s shock is deep. She will definitely get professional help to deal with her own defenselessness and take a self-defense course “so that she no longer has to be defenseless in the future,” said the Ö3 star.
