The “Climate Action Night Linz” will take place on June 21 under the motto “Make climate your topic”. The Lentos is the venue from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
A clear goal of the format is to generate public awareness, said Mayor Klaus Luger (SP) at today’s press conference, and that the aim was to address “younger people” in particular. This was also taken into account with the creation of the program, which, in addition to a poetry slam including an interactive “Clima Path” and DJ acts.
“Involve proactively”
The climate goals that the city has defined, including that of a climate-neutral industrial city by 2040, must not only be communicated scientifically, but also in an “emotionalizing” way. Luger is convinced that the “Climate Action Night” would give people the opportunity to contribute positively and proactively.
“We can only fight the climate crisis together. That’s why it’s important that we get the people of Linz on board,” said City Councilor Eva Schobesberger (Greens). Without a change in one’s own behavior it will not work, with the format there is low-threshold access.
For Michaela Feichtl from the Linz climate control center, the “Climate Action Night” also marks the starting signal for public participation in the ongoing process of creating the climate neutrality concept. “It is important to us that the proposed measures take social aspects into account.”
At the “Climate Path”, which goes back to UniNEtZ, visitors have the opportunity to find out about the challenges of climate change for Linz, current and potential solutions and climate pioneers. At the same time, they have the opportunity to discuss “their own ideas”.
