Several residents discovered a fire in the early hours of the morning and alerted the emergency services. At 4.38 a.m. the fire brigades in the area of Peilstein (district Rohrbach) were alerted. A total of eleven fire brigades with 150 men and women made their way to a stable building that is detached outside of Peilstein. The roof was on fire and the electricity was off. “This resulted in a first difficulty for the fire brigades,” says Andreas Sexlinger, head of operations and commander of FF Peilstein in an interview with nachrichten.at. There were still cows in the milking facility that could not be freed without electricity. While the fire brigade was building up the emergency power, three pipelines were laid in parallel to extinguish the fire.

The emergency services managed to bring around 100 cows to safety and extinguish the fire.

Putting out the many embers turned out to be a big challenge. It was finally possible after the roof covering was opened, says Sexlinger. The animals were then returned to the barn. However, since some of the herd had left, the fire brigade used a drone to find the animals again. Which finally succeeded. With the exception of one calf that died, all animals survived the fire unharmed.

The fire brigades were able to move in again. Only one fire watch remained on site as of Tuesday morning. The stable building is far away from other buildings, so nobody was in danger. The cause of the fire is still being determined.
