She did not give permission for the body to be cremated, she said on Wednesday, according to the Milan daily Il Giornale.
“I have learned that a morgue has been set up in a hurry and will only remain open for four hours, and that cremation and a funeral for the ‘closest relatives’ will follow. I appeal to the Salzburg police to intervene and to exercise my right as a spouse as I have not authorized a funeral home, cremation or burial,” explained the director-writer.
“The agent claims that he is carrying out Berger’s wishes. So why was it necessary to do everything with this veil of secrecy? Didn’t my husband leave any written orders?” asked Guidato. When the agent doubted whether Guidato and Berger were even married, the woman replied that she had sent the marriage certificate to the Italian consulate in Vienna. The hospital where Berger died did not send her lawyer a certificate stating the cause of death, as he had requested. “The press speaks of a cardiac arrest. It would be my right as a widow to receive the death certificate in order to be able to investigate if necessary,” said the Italian.
Guidato complained that she had read about her alleged testamentary interests in the press. This is by no means true. “The manager claims to know that I’m excluded from Berger’s will. But how does he know if it hasn’t been opened yet?” asked the Italian.
