A walker discovered the little velvet paws early Wednesday morning on the playground in Linz’s Hessenpark. They had been left on a snuggly bed and with an unopened sack of cat food. They were lucky in their misfortune: the animal-loving finder immediately sounded the alarm. Employees of ICARA animal rescue, the Linz animal shelter and police officers brought the kittens to safety.

Now the fluffy quintet is recovering from the hardships of the first days of life in the warm room of the animal shelter in Linz. “As is so often the case, we are disappointed by the heartlessness of some people,” says an ICARA animal rescue worker. “Instead of handing over the little ones to the care of an animal welfare organization or an animal shelter, the helpless creatures were simply left to their own devices in a park.”
