The Noriker stallion, who was towed in a car trailer at around 4:45 p.m., had apparently kicked his hind hooves so hard that the locking mechanism on the loading ramp had come loose. The ramp fell backwards onto the roadway. The 24-year-old owner of the horse from the Gmunden district, who was driving the car, apparently did not notice what was going on in the trailer and just kept driving – even after the animal fell out of the trailer at full speed.
The stallion overturned several times, reported witnesses to the accident. According to his own statements, the driver of the car only noticed the loss of the animal in Eisengattern (Kirchham municipality) – and turned around. He left the badly damaged trailer in iron gates. In the end, he was frightened and slightly injured and was able to pick up his horse next to the road. Drivers who knew horses had stopped, calmed the animal down and caught it.
