Around 90,000 tourists are expected, 20,000 of them from Austria, many of whom have already arrived. According to the authorities, Saturday night passed without incident. Downtown fountains have been cordoned off over concerns they could be damaged. Music in the bars could only be played until 1:00 a.m. There is a ban on selling alcohol on the beach or on the open street, and glass bottles and cans are also prohibited outdoors. It is forbidden to sleep outdoors in sleeping bags and tents. Violations can result in penalties of up to 500 euros.

The tourism officer of the municipality of Lignano, Massimo Brini, took a look on the spot on Friday evening to be sure that there were no excesses, local media reported. Police officers from South Tyrol and Carinthia were on duty to support the Italian colleagues with the checks.

Lignano is expecting a larger influx of foreign holidaymakers on the Pentecost weekend than last year. Hotels, holiday apartments and campsites are fully booked. The small town on the northern Adriatic is one of the most popular bathing resorts in Italy because of its long sandy beach.
