President Luis Lacalle Pou met with the ministers and undersecretaries who today make up the cabinet of his government for an informal lunch at his residence in Anchorena, in Cologne, to fulfill a meeting promise that he had made at the beginning of his administration; but also to continue talking, in another setting, about the project of Accountability of June.
With new faces recently incorporated —with the lobbyist Raul Lozano as the most recent, in charge of the portfolio of Housing and Land Development (MVOT) after the scandal with the ex-minister Irene Moreira and the crisis in the coalition itself—, the cabinet had the opportunity to talk about various current issues in a way that, on the daily agenda, they had not been able to until then.
As stated by the Minister of Public Health, Karina Rando, At the end of the meeting, it was a “very pleasant fellowship lunch in a beautiful setting”.
“It was possible to discuss various issues that concern the work of the country, especially the Accountability project, which will be focused mainly on what is mental health and addictions. They were talking about this topic, coordinating and going a little deeper “, he expressed.
Two days ago, on Wednesday, President Lacalle Pou had summoned a council of ministers in executive tower to start talks on the Accountability project, the last one in which the government will be able to increase spending on the budget line before the 2024 general elections.
Also, during that meeting, the president had announced that the government will allocate 20 million dollars for a program focused on addictions and mental health —as promised back in March. Therefore, yesterday, in Anchorena, he reiterated to the ministers that they focus on “executing the resources available to them” rather than asking for increases in resources.
The fulfillment of most of the commitments of the Multicolor Coalition despite the obstacles faced, as well as salary recovery in the public and private sectors were other issues highlighted by the president.
The great absentee of the day
A great absence at lunch was that of the secretary of the Chair, Alvaro Delgado, to whom several leaders of the National Party (NP) already point out as the natural successor of Lacalle Pou. However, the official could not be present since he had a traffic accident on the way to the presidential residence that same morning.
The car in which Delgado was traveling —since paysandu towards Anchorena- got confused and turned to the department of Black river, at kilometer 29 of Route 24.
