Bombing in Belgorod province leaves one dead, denounces Russian governor

At least one person was killed by a shelling “by the Ukrainian Armed Forces” against the city of Shebekino, in the Russian province of Belgorod, the region’s governor, Viacheslav Gladkov, reported today.

“One person died. This is a security guard from a company active in the city, he was outside at the time of the bombing,” Gladkov wrote on his channel on the Telegram messaging network, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.

The governor specified that among the injured are two young people aged 15 and 17, who are receiving the necessary medical assistance.

The city of Shebekino is located about four kilometers from the border with Ukraine and has about 40,000 inhabitants.

The news of this new attack came after Russia warned last Wednesday that it would respond “extremely firm” to new armed incursions into its territory, after denouncing more drone attacks in the Belgorod region.

A day earlier, Russian authorities had reported the death of 70 fighters on the border with Ukraine who, according to their complaints, had infiltrated from Ukraine.

But the Ukrainian authorities, who refused to be involved in the incursion, indicated that this type of situation could be repeated in other parts of Russia due to “the number of citizens who are against the regime.”

Belgorod province has been the target of various attacks since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine launched in February 2022, for which a high-level “terrorist threat” alert is in effect.

The operation in Belgorod was claimed on a Telegram channel by the Freedom for Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC), made up of Russian volunteer combat units that oppose the Kremlin, and had already claimed incursions in the same region. .
