The price of bottled sparkling water has skyrocketed 10.2% in the interannual variation, according to the last weekly report of the Consumer Price Information System (SIPC), that elaborates the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), in the framework of the crisis that Uruguay and increased consumption by families.

According to the survey, which measured 540 establishments throughout the country, the average value of table sparkling water, between 2.25 and 2.5 liters, was marketed at 65.6 pesos in Montevideo, 65.3 pesos in the metropolitan area and 64.2 pesos inside. However, the minimums and maximums in each slope ranged between 48 and 77 pesos.

Although the values ​​were similar to those recorded in last week’s report, looking by brand at the MEF indicated that the bottle of native of 2.5 liters became more expensive 0.15%, while the hello 2.5 liter rose 0.14%. No changes remained, meanwhile, the morning of 2.5 liters.

The price of bottled still water began to be released

As a novelty of the survey, in the framework of the water crisis that affects Uruguay, he SIPC incorporated this week, as the government had planned, non-carbonated table water in a 2.25 to 2.5-liter bottle and a 6 to 6.25-liter drum, so that registered establishments begin to report prices daily.

Although it is not possible to compare the official statistics because it is the first measurement, the report informed the values ​​of the morning 2.5 liters, which was at an average price of 54 pesos, followed by the Vitale of 2.5 liters, in 58.1 pesos. The one with the highest price turned out to be the hello of 2.25 liters, which was marketed at 72.2 pesos on average.

Regarding drums, the survey of the MEF indicated that the hello of 6.25 liters was sold to 131.3 pesos and the native of 6 liters was in 111.5 pesos. It is expected that starting next week data will be published again in order to compare the interweekly increases.

Bottled water sales tripled year-on-year

In this context, a study by the Scanntech company revealed that the sale of bottled water tripled in year-on-year terms so far in May, driven by the water crisis and the increase in the salinity of the liquid distributed by the National Administration of State Sanitary Works (OSE).

The survey was carried out taking into account the number of tickets that include bottled water in Montevideo and Canelones. Thus, they discovered that the number of tickets that include the product multiplied in May. In addition, consumers assigned a 30% more than budget to the purchase of water. In fact, bottles without gas increased a 368%, while the drums did 235%.
