The president of Uruguay questioned the union and said: “I have never seen anyone go on strike because they have closed a dairy.”
President Luis Lacalle Pou referred to the Conaprole conflict during his speech at the congress of the rural federation which took place in Peach and pointed to the union when considering that the origin of the tensions “is incredible”, when questioning the measures of force carried out after the incorporation of new technology in the plant Rodriguez.
The president charged against the attitude of the Association of Workers and Employees of Conaprole (AOEC) and assured: “I have never seen anyone go on strike because they have closed a tambo, as they have closed so many”. Thus, he disagreed with the strike started by the union, which is now on hold, in the midst of negotiations with the company and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS).
Leading the closure of the Rural Federation congress, Lacalle Pou pointed out that “when you see what the reason for the conflict is, it’s incredible” and questioned the attitude of the employees when pointing out that “There are 12 or 15 that change places”, in reference to Conaprole’s investment in a packaging machine that implies changes in work shifts, although the company ruled out that labor sources are at risk.
The president stated that the company “is a flagship industry” of Uruguay and called to “find a solution.” “It’s a shame that something that is the pride of all Uruguayans ends like this,” he criticized, speaking of “an economic factor, but also a psychological one.”
