This was announced by the fifth of the past Premier League season on Tuesday. Liverpool did not provide any information on the length of the contract. According to the British media, the contract is initially short-term. The 59-year-old Schmadtke was the managing director of VfL Wolfsburg for four and a half years.
Schmadtke gave up his managerial position in Wolfsburg in January and actually retired. The former goalkeeper succeeds Julian Ward, who leaves the club this summer after more than ten years. After a botched season, the team, which last year won the FA Cup and English League Cup and narrowly missed out on the championship, is on the verge of an upheaval.
