One injured and considerable property damage: This is the balance sheet of a traffic accident on Tuesday morning in the local area of Straßwalchen in Salzburg’s Flachgau. A 71-year-old car driver from the Braunau district lost control of his Skoda Arona while driving on the B147. In the roundabout at Mayburgerplatz, he drove straight on at full speed and smashed through the window of a business premises, which fortunately is currently empty.

He wanted to turn right into the town center and was “suddenly gone,” the pensioner told the police. Only when his car was already in the shop window did he regain consciousness. A 30-year-old Upper Austrian who saw the accident provided first aid and set the rescue chain in motion.
The pensioner was treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital for further treatment, the Salzburg police said in the afternoon. According to first responders on site, he should have survived the accident with relatively minor injuries.
The volunteer fire brigade in Straßwalchen came to do the clean-up work. The B1 had to be closed during the operation, and there were traffic delays.
