The fire broke out between noon and 3 p.m. in the so-called “bird room” in the home of a bird lover in St. Veit im Mühlkreis (Rohrbach district). Since the door and window were closed, the fire did not spread further due to the lack of oxygen and went out again by itself.

However, the breeder noticed the fire too late: when he gained access to the room, all 150 birds housed there had died and some of the cages had melted. The volunteer fire brigade in St. Veit im Mühlkreis extinguished the last embers.

The amount of property damage caused could not be quantified for the time being, and the cause of the fire was still unclear on Tuesday evening. The police investigation is ongoing. An expert was ordered to inspect the scene of the fire.
