Sirens went off in Seoul, South Korea, after a North Korean rocket launch was reported.

The South Korean military initially said it was examining whether the launch was successful, while South Korean and Japanese media said the governments were examining the possibility of a failure.

North Korean state media did not immediately report the launch. However, when they did, they revealed the flaw. “The launch of the new ‘Cheollima-1’ satellite transport rocket fell into the Western (Yellow) Sea after losing momentum due to irregular start-up of the two-stage engine,” the official KCNA news agency reported.
