The undersecretary of Ministry of Environment, Gerardo Amarillaexplained that from the government portfolio no reduction or “exoneration” in the rates that OSE charges for the supply of running water. In dialogue with Telemundo, the government official clarified that the issue “is not on the working table,” at least by the Executive Power.
In recent days, the president of OSE himself, Raul Monterohad pointed out the possibility of lowering the rates in those homes that have reduced their water consumption.
The director of OSE for the broad front, Edgardo Ortunohad suggested exonerating the payment of the rate during the month of May, as a compensatory measure with customers due to the loss of quality in the service due to high salinity in the water.
In turn, the measure sought to alleviate the cost that users have had to assume by having to buy mineral water to consume. The Secretary of the Presidency himself, Alvaro DelgadoHe reported that OSE’s water consumption in the metropolitan area was reduced by almost 20%.
Amarilla tried to bring peace of mind to the population and said that currently “there are reservations“, and that in the portfolio they maintain high expectations for the rains announced by the Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (inumet) seeking to improve “the reserves of Paso Severino and that of the dam we built in Belastiquí,” he commented.
In case it does not rain before June 23, Amarilla pointed out that the Environment work table is looking for alternatives to have reserves that can provide water to the population.
After being asked about the possibility that the water from OSE becomes more salinity concentrated, Amarilla limited himself to saying that this cannot be foreseen now and that “the technicians are working on alternatives.”
OSE is drilling for water in Montevideo
Since this week, OSE has been drilling in Montevideo, seeking to have extra reserves for hospitals in the capital. Until now, tanker trucks had been loaded with 30,000 liters of drinking water in Costa Azul (cannelloni).
Currently, two perforations are underway, one in front of the Athletics track, and the other in front of the Velodrome, where a flow of 3,000 liters of water per hour was detected.
