Within the framework of the investigations into the coup attempt on January 8, former Security Cabinet Minister Augusto Heleno Ribeiro believes that the Brazilian dictatorship “saved Brazil from communism.”

The former minister of the Security Cabinet of the former president of Brazil Jair BolsonaroGeneral Augusto Heleno Ribeiro, defended the coup of 1964 and questioned the number of victims before the commission investigating the coup attempt on January 8 that led to the invasion of the three State headquarters.

With his statement, Ribeiro provoked the anger of several deputies, who anticipated legal action against the former Bolsonaro official: “He saved the country. The ’64 movement saved the country”.

“Your honor believes that the 1964 movement killed thousands of people, what did not happen, he believes it was a movement of revenge, of hate, when the movement of 1964 saved Brazil from a turn to communism. There is no doubt about that, just read history, Brazil was one step away from becoming a communist country,” he added.

The deputy of the Socialism and Freedom Party (Psol) Fábio Felix spoke of a crime in the framework of an “attack on democracy” after Ribeiro’s statements and accused him of coup: “It was an apology for the military dictatorship. That is unacceptable in a legislative chamber, no deputy would be here if the dictatorship were a normal movement. He humiliated people who died, were assassinated, with that absurd defense within a parliament,” added Felix.

A nephew of Bolsonaro, investigated for the coup attempt

In addition to former officials, Justice is also investigating Bolsonaro himself and his family: a nephew of the former president of Brazil is investigated by Federal Supreme Court (STF) of Brazil for the coup attempts on January 8 at the headquarters of the three State powers.

The Brazilian justice considers “active” the participation of the relative of the ex-president in the actions whose main objective was to generate riots and question the power of Lula Da Silva, recently assumed after the victory in the second round.

The familiar, known as Leonardo Rodrigues de Jesus is being investigated by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) of Brazil and was inserted by decision of Supreme Court judge Dias Toffoli, who accepted a request from the Attorney General’s Office.

Bolsonaro’s nephew shared images and videos on their social networks about the coup attempt and it was shown at the doors of Congress, one of the three vandalized venues.
