Erdogan will assume his third term as president

The president of Türkiye Recep Tayip erdoğan is preparing to lead a new term – his third – at the head of the government of Turkey after winning the national elections last Sunday.

Erdogan arrived at the second round of a new electoral process with an advantage in the polls despite the intentions of change of a part of the votersin addition to galloping inflation and denunciations of the restrictions of freedoms in a country where there are tens of thousands of opponents in prison or in exile.

The Turkish president was elected last Sunday. After the counting of 98% of the votes, according to the public news agency Anadolu, Erdogan, at the head of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), reached 52.1% of the votes compared to 47.9% for his rival, the Social Democrat Kemal Kilicdaroglu.

The results confirmed the forecasts, for which the president arrived as a favourite. In the first round, on the 14th of this month, Erdogan came out first with more than four percentage points ahead of Kilicdaroglu, who led a broad coalition with five other forces with his Republican People’s Party (CHP) space. However, Erdogan did not have the necessary votes to avoid yesterday’s runoff.
