According to this, around a hundred legal proceedings – covered by legal protection insurance – are pending against the manufacturer in courts in Austria. Over 2,000 people affected reported to the VSV.
The Spanish manufacturer of contraceptive coils had to recall a number of batches of its products in the spring of 2018 due to a material defect. The plastic arms of the spirals became prematurely brittle and therefore broke upon removal or spontaneously. Parts of the arms often remained in the women’s uterus. According to the VSV, if the public had been warned in good time, the women could no longer have had these spirals used or had these spirals removed in good time.
