It should have been a leisurely hike in the Salzkammergut, but for one family it almost ended in tragedy: On Sunday afternoon, the parents and their 14-year-old daughter set off from the Jochwand lookout point in the Bad Goisern municipality in the direction of the Goisern village Weißenbach when the girl suddenly disappeared in the forest.
After the parents had searched in vain for their daughter, they sounded the alarm at around 3:20 p.m. Around 120 emergency services from the police, mountain rescue, water rescue, the Bad Goisern, St. Agatha, Weißenbach and Laser fire brigades as well as dog handlers came to look for the schoolgirl.
Search on land and sea
The search turned out to be difficult because there were hardly any clues as to the whereabouts of the girl, said the Bad Goisern volunteer fire brigade on Sunday evening. The areas were allocated accordingly, coordinated by a joint operations management team, and the missing person was searched for on land and at sea.

Helicopters and drones in action
The search was also supported from the air by police helicopters and fire brigade drones. About four hours after the disappearance came the redeeming news: the girl was found unharmed but completely exhausted in the rough terrain.
Localization: The Jochwand lookout point is a popular destination in the municipality of Bad Goisern (district of Gmunden):
