The presidential and congressional elections are scheduled for November 2024. In the months before, the candidates of the respective parties are selected through extensive primary elections.
Arch-conservative Pence has increasingly distanced himself from his former boss Trump. The latter had expressed anger at Pence’s refusal to support his action against the result of the 2020 presidential election. Along with 63-year-old Pence, there are now numerous applicants on the Republican side. However, Trump has a significant lead in polls: According to the latest data on RealClearPolitics, he came in at 53 percent among supporters of the Republicans, Pence received four percent approval.
