Tamberos against union, a new chapter in the Conaprole conflict

The producers who send milk to the cooperative issued a harsh criticism of the workers.

Dairy farmers and milk producers who send to Conaprole expressed their full support for the dairy company of Uruguay and rejected the recent measures of force carried out by the workers’ union in the context of a dispute at the plant Villa Rodriguez, describing them as “extreme, irresponsible and disproportionate”.

The producers are not at all happy with the Association of Workers and Employees of Conaprole (AOEC)and they made it very clear yesterday, during the realization of the Assembly of the 29control body of the management of the Dairy Cooperative, made up of that number of dairy farmers who send their production to the company and represent all the cooperative members.

At the meeting, the Conaprole board reported on the reality and present of the company—strongly marked by the weeks of conflict in the main production plant and the current “truce” while the negotiations are being held—, and other issues such as the production prospects and the international market in terms of demand and prices —where the protagonist was the drought, along with the possibility of a small loss on the company’s bottom line.

After the assembly, the producers prepared a statement in which they unanimously expressed their “firm unconditional support” to the cooperative before the “extreme, irresponsible and disproportionate measures” carried out by the union. In turn, they gave full support to the management carried out by the management of the cooperative in the framework of building “modern” labor relations that are a “win-win” for all members of the dairy chain.

The state of negotiations with the union

Conaprole’s relations with AOEC remain unstable, despite the fact that a certain “truce” seemed to have been reached as a result of the active intervention of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS). In this sense, and although currently the workers carry out their activities in the plant for 30 days while the negotiation is deepened —with special shifts and the operation of the machinery that caused the problems—, said provision was not formally accepted through the signature of an agreement, and it is carried out “orally”.

For his part, the general manager of Conaprole, Gabriel Valdez, emphasized that the attitude of the company when it comes to defend the interests of the company and the shipping producers and that of continuing to evolve technologically is not going to change. And that there are barely a hundred workers who promote the claims and measures, in a universe of thousands of people who perform functions in the cooperative, thus reducing the legitimacy of AOEC.
