The Uruguayan Automotive Trade Association published its monthly report where vehicle sales grew after two months of being down.
With a 6% year-on-year growththe sale of 0km vehicles during the month of May in Uruguay, which rebounded after two months of collapse that almost reached 10%, with the light utility category leading sales with the highest growth compared to the same month of last year.

According to the monthly report of the Uruguayan Automotive Trade Association (ACAU), in May the sale of 0km vehicles increased – after two months of falling – with 6% year-on-year. In total, during the past month, sold 4,914 vehicles.


Among the best-selling categories are light utilitywith an increase of 31% compared to May 2022. In total, 1,720 vehicles, the most prominent brands being Fiat, Chevrolet, Volkswagen and Renault.
Secondly, there were automobiles with 1,668 units sold, although it represented a drop in the category of 11% compared to the same month last year. Among the most outstanding brands are, in first place, Chevrolet – with differences of more than 300 vehicles sold -, in second place, Citroën (with 206 vehicles sold) and Peugeot in third place with 187 units sold.
The sport utility vehicles (SUVs)for their part, placed 1,259 units in the month of May with an increase of 6% year-on-year. The most prominent brands were Volkswagen, Peugeot and Chery. The truckstheir sales increased compared to the month of April where 230 were sold, while last month 196 were colored, and the JAC, Volkswagen and JMC brands stood out.
Lastly, the bus in more than 200% during the month of May since 16 were sold, while in the month of April only 3 vehicles were painted. The only brands that were sold were Volvo, Mercedes Benz and Scania.
