The value of the loot is around 126,000 euros, a total of 54 facts were displayed. Two main suspects from the Serbian group of criminals, aged between 24 and 45, were arrested.
The Salzburg State Criminal Police Office has been investigating the suspects since January. They drove from Vienna to the crime scenes in cars, as the Salzburg State Police Headquarters informed on Thursday. The focus was on houses in the Salzburg communities of Hallein, Grödig, Kuchl, Elsbethen and Eugendorf as well as in the Upper Austrian community of Mattighofen and in the Lower Austrian communities of Perchtoldsdorf, Purgstall, Wieselburg and Laxenburg.
The perpetrators initially stowed the loot in rented containers in Vienna. They then transported the stolen goods to Serbia. Some of the loot worth around 9,000 euros was seized and handed over to the owners.
Main perpetrator partly confessed
Two Serbs aged 26 and 45 live in the districts of Mödling and Vienna, respectively, five other Serbs live in Serbia. According to the police, some of the two main perpetrators, who were arrested on March 9 by order of the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office, confessed. Two other main suspects aged 26 and 35 are still on the run.
The gang is being investigated for burglary, commercial theft and a criminal association. A 43-year-old Serb who lives in the Braunau district is accused of receiving stolen goods. He is said to have smuggled parts of the loot to Serbia or commissioned other people to bring them to his home country.
