The mandatary thanked the work of the Expert Commission, in charge of writing the constitutional draft that will serve as a guide for the directors, and stressed that “they carried out their task with a patriotic spirit that proved to be virtuous and I also hope is contagious, not only for this space, but for the whole of Chilean society.”
Along these lines, he asked the elected councilors “collaboration” and “yield when necessary”in order to find the common points “in search of the best for Chile”.
“I am convinced that it will do our country good to close this (constituent) cycle. I trust that during these months of intense work that awaits you, you will think about those people that you have promised to represent and that this proposal manages to contain and include them,” he said.

The right and control over the Constitutional Council
The drafting of a new constitution took place in a context of control by the Chilean right, a sector that was victorious in the elections for constitutional councilors on May 7.
