The ANP advances in its project to create a dry port in Rivera

The National Administration of Ports (ANP) continues advancing in its project for the creation of a dry port in the department of Rivera. This intermodal terminal would function as an extension of the Montevideo port and would be strategically located just 5 kilometers from Brazil.

The head of the ANP, Juan Curbeloaffirmed before the press that it is a “very important” project, for which a 25 hectare plot of land is to be acquired in that bordering department, seeking to develop “a customs port area” that will be “very important to capture cargo from the north of the regionand in particular from southern Brazil, to be operated by the port of Montevideo”.

The dry port is “a little piece of the port of Montevideo that moves (physically) to the border with Brazil“, explained the hierarch, a port area that has all the legal powers and requires Customs and Prefecture.

In recent days, the ANP formally submitted to the Intendance of Rivera a plan for the “recategorization” of the land. Once the departmental authorization is obtained, the entity will proceed with the beginning of the fencing and the beginning of works on the property.

The authorization for the dry port would be ready before the end of the year
