The State Police Directorate confirmed a media report. “The incident is being examined by the competent authority,” said spokesman Markus Dittrich. A report was sent to the public prosecutor’s office. According to the police, the dispute broke out on Wednesday afternoon in Praterstrasse in Vienna-Leopoldstadt. The top police athlete, accompanied by a 40-year-old Austrian, got into a fight with a 43-year-old and a 52-year-old for a parking space. In the course of this, the police student is said to have threatened the two dangerously. He and the 40-year-old then left the location.

The police stopped the two men a short time later near the scene of the crime. The officers found a small amount of cocaine in the athlete’s friend and a forbidden manslayer in the police officer’s car. According to the tabloid report, when asked about this, he said to the officials: “It’s not all that bad. Can’t we turn a blind eye?” A medical officer also found him to be overtired, which is why his driver’s license was temporarily taken away and he was forbidden to continue driving. Both suspects were reported at large, according to police.

The Vienna State Police Headquarters said on Friday that the allegations – especially the suspicion of incitement to abuse of office – were being examined under official law. “The person concerned is not in the executive field service, but is still in training,” it said. The public prosecutor’s office has a report “on the legal assessment of the suspicion of a dangerous threat”. Because of the manslaughter, the police student was also reported under the Weapons Act.
