“The European market for student accommodation has attracted strong investor interest in recent years, leading to strong demand,” says Laura Holzheimer of CBRE. This is also due to the increasing number of students. However, the supply of residential accommodation is not keeping pace with demand and the stock is often fragmented and outdated.
Even if all planned projects were completed, the supply rate for student housing in Europe would remain at less than 15 percent. According to CBRE, it is ten percent in Austria. Despite government measures, demand will continue to exceed supply, says Holzheimer.
