Last Friday the recently appointed co-chair of dLocal, Sergio Fogel, rang the opening bell of Nasdaq to celebrate two years of participation – completed on June 3 – of listing on the Stock Exchange. This invitation is given in the framework of complaints by Argentina, giving a breath of fresh air to the technology company.


The commonly known “Opening Bell” represents the beginning of the trading day and has an emblematic meaning for those who participate since it symbolizes a gesture by the United States financial market for companies that are invited to be part of the event.

In an interview with the newspaper El País, the new co-president of the Uruguayan unicorn spoke about the situation in Argentina and emphasized that the company moves with very strict rules and that all money orders are approved by the Central Bank.
“As we stated in an official statement, we work according to very strict rules. We can only make money orders when approved by the central bank and by the compliance department of the first-tier banks with which we work,” Fogel explained, adding that the company is willing to “collaborate with the authoritiesprovide all the explanations and information that is requested of us”.
The fintech was accused by the government of Argentina for an alleged overbilling of digital services for at least 400 million dollars, with the supposed purpose of evading foreign exchange. The investigation is promoted by the Argentine prosecutor Guillermo Marijuan and the judge in charge of the case, Maria Eugenia Capuchettiinstructed the prosecutor Ramiro Gonzalez to continue with the cause that tries to determine if there was a crime for the overbilling of digital services.
