On Thursday, June 15, Thomas Bernhard’s “Der Hutmacher” can be seen at 7 p.m. in the Pettenbach Writing Museum, along with a handful of short stories. “The Hatter” (1968) deals with the problem of deporting old people.
Festival director and artist Hapé Schreiberhuber will read the two novellas “The Italian” and “The Hatter” in their entirety in collaboration with Suhrkamp Verlag on Saturday, June 17, at 8 p.m. and at the Sunday matinee on June 18 (11 a.m.) in the palace studio (inner courtyard from Lamberg Castle). “The Italian” (1963) already shows all the subtleties of Bernhard’s unmistakable language: irony and ingenious, chamber music-like speech melody.
