At the Urban Summit of the European city, the departmental head assured that the natural resource is a main issue on the agenda.
The mayor of Montevideo, Caroline Cosse He announced that various international entities and countries are interested in offering help to Uruguay to deal with the water crisis that has the government and its population in suspense.
Cosse participated in the Brussels Urban Summit (BUS)where experts and politicians from all the various countries participate – among them Uruguay – and issues of sustainability, climate change and the future of cities are discussed. “More of 600 cities of the world we have come together to discuss the main challenges we face and share strategies to overcome them. Medellín, Stockholm, Brussels, Helsinki, Marrakesh, Athens, San José de Costa Rica are some of the local governments present,” the mayor tweeted.
There, the mayor told Telemundo that she had meetings with international entities in the capital of Belgium that would provide help to deal with the water crisis. However, she wanted to be careful with her statements regarding the progress of the negotiations. “I’m going to keep the reserve for a few days, because they have offered us helpand until it is specified, we are not going to make it explicit”, anticipated the departmental head.
On the other hand, he explained that he had conversations with the mayor of Brussels, Jaime Pumarejo, who showed interest in the situation that the country is going through. “The first thing we are going to do is bring him up to date on the situation, and then see to what extent they can cooperate; we accept any help, obviously, ”he declared.

Within the framework of the summit, Cosse also announced that he had meetings with the bank of the european union where he raised environmental projects seeking financing. “They are all issues that the bank is interested in financing, whatever goes for the digital heading or by green heading“said the department head.
“We held a bilateral meeting with the representative of the European Investment Bank to talk about the different aspects in which cities can receive support within the framework of national agreements,” he posted on his Twitter account.
