The Swiss professional cyclist Gino Mäder succumbed to his injuries one day after his serious fall at the Tour de Suisse.

The sixth stage planned for Friday was cancelled, instead the field completed a commemorative ride over the last kilometers of the planned section. The organizers of the tour, in consultation with Mäder’s team and his family, have decided to continue the race for the time being. On Friday evening we will discuss how things will continue from Saturday.

East Tyrolean Felix Gall, second overall, pleaded for the tour to be canceled completely. “It’s a huge tragedy, an incredibly sad day. It has taken a toll on all of us. We are now riding the last 20km of today’s stage in his honor. We will all sit down afterwards and decide what will happen next. I hope that will be canceled, anything else would be inappropriate,” said the 25-year-old, who was eight seconds behind Denmark’s Mattias Skjelmose.
