Sánchez detailed in dialogue with AFP how the rescue process was. He told that they found “the aircraft on May 15” and three days later they were collecting “evidence such as the bottle, the scissors, the bow, a shelter, a recently eaten passion fruit and very recent tracks – about 24 or 48 hours old”.
When they were at that point in the investigation, they immediately moved “more troops.” She then added “We rappelled in special operators who I told them that they shouldn’t stop until they found the four minors. But we found absolutely nothing. The rain had erased all traces.” The general thought he had “something strange, something they weren’t doing right.”

When asked about his spiritual convictions after having internalized with the indigenous communities, Sánchez stated: “By interacting with these (indigenous) communities I understand their beliefs a little better. Just as some of us pray to Jesus Christ, to the Blessed Virgin -and others to Buddha- something magical has this culture that prays to nature and to the mother jungle. We applied military science, but when we learned about the spirituality that they use, there was something that clicked. and that finally led to finding the minors,” he clarified.
On the other hand, he recalled that the indigenous “They drank yagé -a traditional indigenous drink made with ayahuasca, which they use to enter a spiritual trance-, and in their visions they oriented different points.”
“They did a lot observations elsewhere and we found absolutely nothing. But this last pointed out where the four minors were and aligned with military sciencewith the evidence we had found”, he recalled about the process of more than 40 days to find Lesly (13 years old), Soleiny (9), Tien Noriel (5) and Cristin (1).
The soldier repeated the words spoken by the indigenous people: “The jungle spirits were benevolent in the end and Mother Nature gave them back.”
Regarding the state of the children when they were found, he recounted: “One of the girls had a pip (seed) in the mouth. I was ripening her hoping she had something to chew on. The older girl – one of the family members tells us – fed the minor collecting fruits chewing them and throwing them into a container with water.
Lastly, she spoke of the enormous trauma that the minors experienced when the plane they were traveling in crashed and both her mother and the plane’s pilot died at the time: “The older girl said that he saw his little sister in his mother’s armsand he moved his feet. She took the baby out of there, in addition to all the elements that served them and they went away about three days. They came back because They believed that their mother was asleep and not dead, but when they returned, only the three bodies were inside the plane, almost decomposed.“, he concluded.
