Activision purchase: Microsoft temporarily dismissed again

He suspended the deal this week pending a decision on an FTC-requested injunction against the roughly $69 billion takeover. It would be the largest takeover in the gaming industry to date.

Without the court order, Microsoft could have fixed the deal yesterday, Friday. A hearing has now been set for June 22nd and 23rd.

The FTC filed a lawsuit in December to prevent the takeover. Regulators believe it would give Microsoft too much market power in the video game business.

Call of Duty and Candy Crush

The takeover is also controversial outside of the United States. Britain’s antitrust watchdog vetoed it in April, while Microsoft and Activision Blizzard objected. However, the competition watchdogs of the EU Commission approved the transaction last month subject to conditions.

Microsoft, which owns the Xbox game console, wants to secure popular video games such as “Call of Duty”, “Overwatch” and “Candy Crush” with the acquisition.
