There are numerous inverters in stationary trade and especially in online trade that are illegal or potentially dangerous, said Klaus Müller, President of the Federal Network Agency, recently.
According to this, the authority noticed solar inverters for which illegally no CE marking (mandatory for all products manufactured worldwide that are marketed in the EU), no German operating instructions or no dealer address could be found. Some devices also showed deficiencies in technical measurements and, for example, exceeded legal limits for electromagnetic compatibility.
Inverters convert the direct current produced by solar connectors into alternating current. In the simplest case, only a plug has to be plugged into a socket for the connection. The electricity from the solar device then flows to the electrical appliances, in return less electricity is drawn from the grid. The systems are known as balcony power plants or plug-in solar modules.
The authority recommends consumers to buy online from reputable and well-known sources and to obtain information from consumer protection organizations in advance.
