Correísmo must correct the presentation before the Ecuadorian electoral authority to go to elections

The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador denied the registration and qualification of the presidential candidacy pairs of the Citizen Revolution Movement of former President Rafael Correa and the Construye Movement due to errors in the registration and gave them 48 hours to fix them, ahead of the elections advance of August 20.

The CNE plenary last night rejected the candidacies of Luisa González and Andrés Arauz, a formula chosen by the center-left movement Revolución Ciudadana, and also that of Fernando Villavicencio and Andrea González of the center-right Construye party.

Both couples would have failed to comply with legal requirements, for which they were given 48 hours to present their defenses and correct the objections in accordance with Article 105 of the Democracy Code, reported the Europa Press news agency.

In the case of Villavicencio-González, the registration failed to provide the general and specific objectives of its work plan as well as those of its multi-year plan. In addition, Andrea González’s resume is missing.

“Immediately we have proceeded to correct two formal errors. The first related to a subtitle of the Government Plan and the second regarding a signature of the vice-presidential candidate. Everything in order,” Villavicencio said on Twitter.

In the case of Revolución Ciudadana, the CNE reported that it did not present the work plan of the highest authorities, which violates article 97 of the Code of Democracy.

So far, the candidacies of Jan Topic and Diana Jácome for the Juntos Triunfaremos alliance have been accepted; Bolívar Armijos and Linda Romero for the Friend Movement; Otto Sonnenholzner and Érika Paredes from the Actuemos alliance; Yaku Pérez-Nory Pinela for the Claro Que se Puede alliance; Daniel Noboa Azín and Verónica Abad for National Democratic Action (ADN).

The only candidate for the Presidency who was challenged is Xavier Hervas, from the RETO movement, who was objected to by Revolución Ciudadana on the grounds that he would have shares in offshore companies, something that is included in the Democracy Code as an inability to be a candidate.

According to the electoral calendar, the list of registered candidates will be announced on August 6. The electoral campaign will start two days later and will end on August 17.

The suffrage to elect the president and vice president of the Republic and 137 assembly members will be on Sunday, August 20.

The authorities elected at the polls will be able to hold office until May 2025, thus completing the period for which the government of President Guillermo Lasso was elected, who put an end to his government by activating the “cross death” prior to the vote. in a political trial against him for alleged embezzlement.

With this, the president dissolved the legislative body and ordered to call early elections.
