Punta del Este will be the capital of LGBT businesses

LGBT tourism in Uruguay has grown exponentially thanks to the proactivity of businessmen and legislation that recognizes community rights. However, there is still a lack of education and sensitivity in the tourism sector to offer an authentic and environmentally friendly experience. This is what the Uruguay LGTB Summit Play Connection. In this regard, the president of the Chamber of Commerce and LGBT Business of Uruguay, Adrian Russo, overtook scope.com details of what will be the important event to take place on September 3, 4 and 5 at the Hotel Enjoy Punta del Este.

“The Uruguay LGBT Summit Play Connection, Punta del Este 2023, is a international conference where they will talk about diverse economy, supply, marketing, inclusive communication and LGBT tourism; and the second day, specifically labor inclusion”, explained Russo. The bet is mainly on economics and business, but not only on that: “We will talk about Why is it important to have inclusive spaces? and why it is important to hire diverse talent in companies”, indicated the president of the Chamber.

— What special characteristics does LGBT tourism have? Is Uruguay well positioned in that sense?

LGBT tourism It is a tourism that spends more for various reasons: double income without children, the way to vacation breaking seasonality, etc. What we do have to have as a country to offer foreign tourists is adequate communication, an adequate language, with work to train officials from the inside out.

And I think that this is the fundamental thing, work is being done in Uruguay for that. We have more and more tourism, so we need specific training. In the House, with the support of LATU and INEFOP, we are finishing closing everything to start a seal of quality of LGBT Inclusive Company, which will begin to be applied in the coming months and will precisely educate the company in every way from the inside out. It has three different modules and I think that this will help the job of being able to “serve” this type of tourism correctly.

— How will Punta del Este prepare to receive the event?

The event is a co-production between the Maldonado City Hall and the Uruguayan LGTB Chamber of Commerce.

Maldonado has been working for many years with LGBT tourism, with a group of businessmen called Punta del Este LGBT. We are going to unite and work to receive and show all the national and, above all, international attendees, everything that Maldonado has to continue receiving more and more tourism.

The event is intended for entrepreneurs who already work in the segment or who want to start working in it. Political representatives, foreign ambassadors will participate, and approximately 500 to 700 people are expected between the two days at the conferences. In addition, it will have streaming transmission through Antel. For us it is important to also be able to go out by streaming to reach the world.

It is not only conference, but there is also workshops, a job fair for people in the community who are looking for work, and also for spaces to have a cocktail, chat, meet and have meetings outside of the academic field.
