BARCELONA. With black jerseys (before the break), Brazil’s national soccer team has emphasized their protest against racism. The five-time world champion, for whom ex-Rapidler Joelinton (Newcastle United) scored 1-0 (27th), won in Barcelona against Guinea 4-1 (2-1).
“In 109 years of history, the Brazilian national team has never competed with a black jersey,” the Brazilian CB said in a statement.
Many of the internationals also knelt on the pitch at Espanyol Barcelona’s stadium before the ball rolled as a sign against racism. “There is no playing with racism,” was the motto of the CBF. Brazilian Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has been repeatedly slandered in Spain in the past.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that Vinicius Jr. should lead a new task force of the world football governing body in the fight against racism.
Vinicius Jr. wore the number ten at Brazil in place of injured superstar Neymar. The winger also scored the final score against Guinea in the 88th minute. The Seleção, coached by Ramon Menezes, are looking to continue their campaign against racism for tomorrow’s game against Senegal in Lisbon.
