The UFC St. Peter/Au has always been a lift driver between the second and the first Lower Austrian state league in its club history. After a twelve-year absence, the club managed to return to the highest blue and yellow division at the weekend.
At St. Peter, in the deciding game for the championship title in the 2nd Landesliga West against Herzogenburg in front of 700 spectators, dynamics could be seen from the start, the Mostviertler didn’t let anything burn. With a penalty converted by Idrizaj (6th) and the 2-0 by Stradner (12th), who failed at the goal shortly before the break, the game was decided prematurely in the early phase. Despite fast rallies in midfield, the guests from Herzogenburg lacked the power to penetrate the sixteen of the home team.
With the leadership in the back and the outstanding midfield director Martinovic, the Zach-Elf played freely. Herzogenburg wanted the goal to turn the game around and opened up space for the St. Peterer counter-movements. In two of these quick counterattacks, Gerg missed two “seaters”. With Stradner’s second goal to make it 3-0 (68th), the final decision was made – after a heart-stopping final, St. Peter is one point ahead of ASK Ybbs Meister and behind in the 1st Lower Austrian national league.
