Three fire brigades were alerted on Monday around 3:15 p.m. to a fire operation in Kirchschlag (Urfahr district). A PV system caught fire on the roof of a family home. The homeowner himself had started fighting the fire with a fire extinguisher.
The emergency services from Zwettl an der Rodl, Kirchschlag and Kranabittedt came to the rescue and gave fire around 4 p.m., the police reported on Monday evening. Fortunately, the fire was confined to the facility. The fire did not spread any further, police said. The residents were unharmed. The fire may have been caused by a short circuit. The investigators can rule out third-party fault.

A few weeks ago, a nachrichten.at report triggered discussions, according to which a photovoltaic system in Schalchen (Braunau district) had started to burn just two days after it was commissioned. Six fire brigades with 61 helpers moved out and worked for hours with the rescue services and the police.
