The pop-up concert series takes place on three Fridays in August at 7.30pm. Last year up to 1000 visitors came to the events.

“Jonny Comet & the Rockets” will start on August 11th at Grünbachplatz. The six-piece band takes visitors on a journey through time to the 1950s and reinterprets old songs.

A week later, the well-known boogie pianist Daniel Ecklbauer and Christoph Steinbach perform in Pernau at the sports field of middle school 3. And on August 25th, country fans will get their money’s worth for the first time with the band “New West” in the Vogelweide (sports field MS). You can register now, which makes planning easier for the city marketing ( www.wels.at).

The city of Wels charges around 400,000 to 500,000 euros a year for the free cultural offerings such as the MusikfestiWels, the district concerts or, as was the case recently, the subscription concerts for a year.

“The MusikfestiWels was the first step towards free concerts, and the trial run in the districts was also very successful,” says Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP). The aim is to bring culture closer to people in a very easily accessible way. In the districts, the local innkeepers are also involved, who take on the catering.

Rabl in Wels cannot imagine multi-day festivals like the Lido Sounds in Linz. “The exhibition center is too central, where there would be space is the airfield, but such an event is prohibited there for reasons of nature conservation.”
