Due to the current scarcity of water reserves in Montevideo and the metropolitan area, SBI already reduced the delays in pipe repairs by almost 60%as reported by Telemundo.

OSE’s “chronic problem” forced the entity to take some measures seeking to mitigate water losses, for which it approved the plan to form a crew of 120 officials who operate in this regard in Montevideo and Coast City.
With the implementation of this plan, the state company managed to update some 850 pending repairsgoing from 1,500 to 650, meaning a monthly cost for the company of the order of 500,000 pesos.
In turn, the OSE is considering the possibility of giving the green light to a private initiative that seeks to bring 50% losses to 25% in 20 years from an investment of about 370 million dollars.
The Municipality of Montevideo reported more than 370 complaints for broken pipes in May
The mayor of Montevideo, Caroline Cossereported last May that the Municipality of Montevideo (MI) had received at least a few 369 complaints for water losses in the OSE pipe network. The capital of the country registers an “endemic” problem in that it refers to the rupture of urban pipes.
The departmental government enabled the WhatsApp 092 250 260 so that citizens report water losses on public roads, and thus collaborate with OSE in locating said points. The Municipality performs a georeferencing of the ruptures and the information is sent to OSE every 24 hours.
